The first time I met Sascha of The Surreal Funfaír was at a gig of The Legendary Pink Dots. We were both booked as support bands for them, for the same evening. He with The Surreal Funfair and us with Noah Grain. We were booked by the venue, he was friends with the band. We had no idea there was a second support band and we were a bit pissed off by the venue, who booked us and made us "pay to play". He was invited by The Legendary Pink Dots. So as he was friends with the Pink Dots (and was much cooler looking as us) we thought - Ok, we will be the first band. We had the do the opener, which we hated and from my experience of playing in bands, it was always a fight to get on stage as late as possible and as close as possible to the main act, so you had the bigges audience. So after a while of uneasy smiles we asked, who is going to open then and Sascha said: "Oh, I can open. I don´t like playing live anyway." - After years of figting to get a good spot in the line up, this was so unexpected I first thought he made a joke, but so it went.
After that night we lost contact, but when I moved to Berlin, I saw him, standing at the U-Bahn, every now and then, but I didn´t dare to talk to him, I thought he might not remember me anyway and he was still much cooler looking than me. Years later I was a a vegan pizza place with a friend and we found out that we both know Sascha and while talking about him we realised he was sitting at a table right behind of us. We had a big laugh telling him and since that day we have stayed in touch. Sascha was the first person I asked to do a Remix and when he came up with two complete different ones. I was more than happy. One is what I was hoping to get from him and the other one is completely different from what I expected from him. I love both.
