Imagine this scene: You are in London at a private party and all of the
people attending the party are bears (gay, hairy, stocky guys), dressed up as Amy Whinehouse (this was before she died) - wigs, dresses make up (beards) and everything. You are having the time of your life, trying out some wigs you found in a cupboard yourself and at that moment the most gorgeous man walks in, with the most piercing blue eyes you ́ve ever seen. That was Michael Atavar.
We talked a lot that evening. He was making music too. A.R.P. - Electronic music. If you wanted to compare us to "The Human League", he would have been Pre-Dare - I would have been Post-Dare. He was sophisticated, educated - I was pop. A.R.P. had released a 7" on clear vinyl and we (Noah Grain) had released a CD.
After returning from London, I read Michael‘s blog and most of the things he wrote had a sad tone to me and I always thought it was London itself, or living in a town, that made him blue. I wrote Apple Tree Garden for him. I told him that this was his song and when I asked him if he might be interested in doing a remix, he said: "There is only one song for me to do, right?" So he worked on this remix, in his snowed-in caravan.
With a small gap of seven years inbetween, we met again in London in 2015. I was delighted to see a calm, happy, creative, still annoyingly
attractive man sitting in front of me.
